How much does custom software cost for a small business?
Our prices are published and fixed. A Focused build is $4,950 for one surface or workflow. A Complete build is $9,850 and is the tier we recommend for most projects. Build + Extend is $17,500 for systems that connect several tools. A paid Blueprint ($500 or $1,500) is credited in full if you sign the build within 30 days. Care plans start at $149 a month, billed separately, plus applicable tax. You get a fixed price in writing before the build starts.
What is a Blueprint, and do I need one?
A Blueprint is a paid scoping step for bigger or less clear jobs. You get a written scope, an acceptance checklist, a fixed quote and a clickable prototype. You own those deliverables whether or not we build the project. If you sign the build within 30 days, the Blueprint fee is credited in full. For a small, clear workflow you usually do not need one.
Who owns the code and the data?
You do. The custom code and data we build for you are assigned to you and live in accounts in your name. Platform components we license to you, such as our booking engine or portal framework, stay ours, and your contract names them. That split is written down before you sign, not discovered later.
What if you disappear or go out of business?
It is the right question to ask a small shop. At handover you receive the repository, your data, a written runbook and a list of every account the system uses. Because nothing is locked inside our accounts, the system keeps running and another developer can take it over.
What if a $16 to $50 a month tool already does this?
Then use it, and we will tell you so on the scoping call. Custom software earns its price when your workflow, your integrations or the per-seat cost of a rented tool no longer fit. We build the layer on top of tools worth keeping, like your POS or booking system, instead of replacing them for the sake of it.
What about maintenance after launch?
The first 12 months are covered by the defect warranty. A care plan adds hosting, monitoring of your critical paths, backups with a quarterly restore test, security updates and a monthly plain-language health report. Care plans are $149, $299 or $499 a month, billed as a separate line plus applicable tax. They are month to month. Cancelling takes one step and you export everything.
Do you use AI to build software?
Yes. We use AI coding tools, and every change is reviewed by an engineer before it ships. Your contract includes a short Tools and AI section covering the tools we use, what of your data may go into them, and that you own what we build for you. If you ask how a specific piece was built, we will tell you.
Do you work remotely?
Yes. We are based in Durango and work with clients across Southwest Colorado, the Four Corners and the rest of Colorado by phone, video and shared screens. The scoping call is by phone or video, and the written proposal arrives within 24 hours of it.
How does payment work, and what if the scope changes?
You pay 50% when you sign and 50% when your acceptance checklist passes at launch. Changes after sign-off go through a written change order at $175 an hour, agreed before any work starts. Third-party costs such as domain names, text-message and payment-processing fees, and app-store accounts are billed by those vendors directly to you.
Can you build a mobile app?
Yes, for iOS, as a client-owned app. It is published under your own Apple developer account, never ours, so you control it. Scope and price are quoted separately from the tiers above, and an app care plan covers store compliance and OS updates.
