The Durango Marketing Guide

How marketing really works in a small Southwest Colorado market — local SEO, websites, Google Ads, and social for Durango and Four Corners businesses.

Who Does Marketing in Durango, Colorado?

Animas Marketing is a digital marketing agency at 552 E 5th Ave in downtown Durango. Tyler Rice founded it in 2016. We run SEO, web design, Google Ads, social media, and email for businesses across La Plata County and the Four Corners. Local SEO starts at $375 a month. Every price is published.

Written From Downtown Durango, For Durango Businesses

Animas Marketing has been helping Southwest Colorado businesses grow since 2016 — from our office on East 5th Avenue, a few blocks off Main in downtown Durango. We are not a franchise or a remote team working from a template: we shop at the businesses we market, we know what Snowdown does to a restaurant's week, and we understand why a contractor's phone rings differently in March than in July. That local footing shapes everything we build, from keyword strategy to ad calendars to the photography on your website.

Tyler started the agency in December 2016, from a small loft near downtown, during his senior year at Fort Lewis College. Today the office sits at 552 E 5th Ave, a few blocks from Main Avenue, where two of the clients below do business. Most of what this page describes comes from jobs we did within walking distance of that door.

What Our Durango Work Looks Like

We hold our own business to the standard we sell. Our Google Business Profile is #2 in the Durango local pack for "marketing durango." It is #3 for "seo durango" (localized check, October 18, 2026). The rating is 5.0 across 44 Google reviews.

On Main Avenue, we film and edit short-form video for Steamworks Brewing Co., downtown since 1996, and for El Moro Spirits & Tavern, a block away. Across both brands we have produced over 1,000 reels and managed more than 2,500 posts since 2022. They have earned 250K+ Instagram likes, and the 94% positive rate across 347 Facebook reviews covers both brands combined. One El Moro reel, "The Chef's Final Touch," reached 108,210 likes and 772 comments.

Southwest Health System is a different kind of job. Healthcare is one of the largest employers in Durango and La Plata County, and patients there research care on their phones. We built service-line pages for orthopedics, women's health, and primary care, then set up paid search that tracks booked appointments instead of clicks. We do not publish outcome numbers for healthcare clients.

Ski and Bow Rack sells ski rental and tuning in winter, then archery and bowhunting gear into fall. We built one seasonal website for both. We researched terms like "ski rental Durango" and "bow tuning Animas Valley" and added SportingGoodsStore structured data. We do not publish traffic numbers for this work.

Working With a Durango Marketing Agency

The questions local business owners ask us most.

Do you only work with businesses in Durango?

Durango is home base, but we work across the Four Corners. Bayfield is covered above. See our pages for Pagosa Springs and for Cortez and Farmington, plus our Telluride guide. Each market gets its own plan, because a ski town, a farm town, and an energy town do not search alike.

What makes marketing in Durango different?

Three things: seasonality (summer and ski season carry many businesses, so timing is everything), a dual audience of visitors and loyal locals, and thin digital competition — most local businesses under-invest online, so consistent fundamentals go disproportionately far here.

How much does marketing cost in Durango?

Our published starting prices: local SEO from $375 a month, Google Ads management from $450, and social media management from $750. Website design starts at $1,800, with hosting billed separately. The pricing page lists every tier, so you can see the number before you call.

Do you work with Durango restaurants and breweries?

Yes. We produce on-site video and run daily social for Steamworks Brewing Co. and El Moro Spirits & Tavern on Main Avenue, and we rebuilt the El Moro website. Our restaurant local SEO checklist covers the search side.

Do you market contractors and home-service companies?

Yes. Contractor searches in Durango follow the building season and a tight labor market, and our contractor marketing guide lays out how we plan for both. Website, Google Business Profile, and Local Services Ads usually come first.

Can you work with a healthcare practice in Durango?

Yes, with care. Patient data has to stay on the right side of HIPAA, and Google judges medical pages more strictly. The Southwest Health System case study shows how we handled service-line pages and appointment routing, and our healthcare practice marketing guide covers the rest.

Which service should my business start with?

For most local businesses: the foundation first — a complete Google Business Profile, a website that converts, and local SEO. Those compound and make every later channel cheaper. If you need demand immediately, Google Ads can run alongside while the organic foundation builds.

How do you report results?

In the numbers that matter to an owner: rankings for the searches that drive revenue, calls and direction requests, leads and bookings by channel, and what was spent to get them. If something is not working, the report says so plainly.

Do you require long-term contracts?

We earn the relationship month to month. Some work — SEO and content especially — needs a realistic runway to compound, and we will be honest about that timeline up front, but we keep clients with results rather than lock-ins.

How do we meet and stay in touch?

By phone and video call, so meetings fit your schedule without anyone driving across town. Our office is on East 5th Avenue in downtown Durango, and you can reach us at (970) 903-5310.

Small-Market Strategy, Not Big-City Playbooks

Marketing advice written for Denver quietly fails in a town this size. Keyword tools show near-zero volume on searches that bring real Durango customers every week. Seasonality swings demand in ways an evenly-spread national budget wastes. And the community notices — and rewards — businesses that show up authentically. Our work is tuned for exactly this market: winning the map pack for high-intent local searches, building websites that convert visitors and locals alike, and timing every campaign to the calendar your revenue actually follows.

Durango's Marketing Calendar, Season by Season

Durango's year has a rhythm, and marketing that ignores it wastes money. This is how we plan around it.

Late January or early February: Snowdown. The winter carnival runs about a week and shuts down part of Main Avenue. Restaurants and bars get a rush, so special hours must be correct in Google and posts must be live before the week starts. Our Snowdown marketing guide walks through it.

Ski season: searches for gear, rentals, and lodging turn on the week Purgatory opens. A shop like Ski and Bow Rack needs its pages and listings ready well before that.

Memorial Day weekend: the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic brings crowds and attention at the same moment, which makes it a good week for a paid push. Tourist searches for lodging, rafting, and dining then stay high through Labor Day.

Fall and the shoulder months. Contractor and home-service searches hold steady through the summer building season, then taper hard by November. Tourist-facing businesses face the opposite problem: a quiet stretch where the locals who follow your account matter most. Mud season is the one stretch where we often tell clients to save the ad budget. Our tourism season marketing calendar has the full year.

Service Area: Bayfield and the Pine River Valley

Bayfield sits in the Pine River valley, twenty miles or so east of Durango on US-160. Farming built the town, and it keeps growing as Durango spreads east. One zip code now holds two kinds of customers. Ranch families have worked the valley for generations. Newer residents commute to Durango and want good services closer to home.

Marketing a Bayfield business means serving both groups without losing the community feel. Many customers search from across La Plata County, or compare Bayfield with Durango. So we target the whole county. We also make sure your Google Business Profile, citations, and page content place you clearly in Bayfield.

Trades are a strong segment here: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and construction. Service-area targeting and Google Local Services Ads suit them. Search intent is high, and the field is smaller than in Durango. Our guide to contractor marketing in Durango explains how we approach that work.
